Fairfax County Historic Home Remodel

A modern high-efficiency HVAC solution carefully integrated into a fully remodeled 1800s-era home.

This 2025 whole-home remodel project required a specialized HVAC approach that balanced modern comfort performance with the structural challenges of a historic property. Advantage Service Group managed the complete design-build process, including engineered load calculations, custom HVAC drawings, and all required county permitting as a licensed Class A Mechanical contractor.

The Foundation of a Modern HVAC System for a Historic Home

Complete design-build engineering

Every aspect of the HVAC system was engineered specifically for the 1,407 sq. ft. historic remodel to ensure efficient airflow, proper equipment sizing, and reliable long-term comfort.

Two high-efficiency Goodman side-discharge heat pumps

The project included two complete Goodman high-efficiency side-discharge heat pump systems designed to provide flexible installation options, quiet operation, and year-round heating and cooling performance.

Low-profile side-discharge equipment design

Side-discharge heat pumps offer a compact footprint and quieter operation, making them ideal for remodel projects where exterior space, appearance, and system placement matter.

Custom sheet-metal ductwork fabrication

ASG designed and installed custom sheet-metal ductwork with insulated branch ducts to improve airflow consistency while adapting to the limitations often found in older home construction.

Designed for historic home integration

Remodeling homes originally built in the 1800s requires careful coordination between modern HVAC performance and existing structural conditions. The system was engineered to maximize comfort without compromising the character of the home.

Balanced airflow and comfort control

The dual-system configuration helps maintain more consistent temperatures throughout the property while improving efficiency and reducing system strain.
